Iraq captures al-Qaeda 'oil minister'
According to Iraq's Interior Ministry, Ali Mahmoud Mohammed was arrested along with other 10 members of the country's al-Qaeda network on Saturday.
The ministry said that Ali Mahmoud Mohammed is accused of hijacking oil tanker trucks, kidnapping and killing the drivers and blowing up oil pipelines.
Earlier, al-Qaeda's so-called "irrigation minister" and "finance minister" were also arrested in an operation carried out on February 21.
The head of al-Qaeda in the war-torn Iraq is also known as the group's "war minister".
Diyala, in northeast Iraq, is considered one of the most dangerous areas of the country where al-Qaeda and various insurgent groups still manage to launch attacks despite a general decrease in violence levels across war-battered Iraq. Press TV
