As the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee holds a hearing Tuesday on a proposed fund to cover additional health care costs for first responders to the 9/11 attacks, Senate Republicans are planning to take issue with the management of the fund, CongressDaily reports.

A new study looking at patients enrolled at the Bellevue Hospital World Trade Environmental Health Center finds that many have begun suffering from new headache since the collapse of the World Trade Center towers in September 2001. Findings suggest these new symptoms are often related to anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder.

"We found that 44% of patients reported new persistent headache after 9/11," said presenter Katherine Henry, MD, from the New York University School of Medicine, in New York City.

Ecuador says U.S. Behind 2008 Terror Bombing

A 130-page report prepared by the Ecuadorean government says U.S. forces then based in the Pacific coast town of Manta helped Colombian troops target Raul Reyes, No. 2 commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The March 2008 bombing, carried out in an Ecuadorean border area called Angostura, triggered a diplomatic crisis in the region. Ecuador and Colombia are just now reestablishing diplomatic ties severed by Quito after the raid.

Ecuador has since ended its Manta cooperation agreement, prompting Washington to sign a deal with Colombia in October allowing U.S. forces to carry out anti-drug operations from seven Colombian military bases. More

The US State Department has been involved in the covert relocation of Yemeni Jews to the United States, a report says.

According to the Wall Street Journal report, about 60 Yemeni Jews have so far been moved to the US.

The report added that the first group, consisting of 17 people, arrived in New York on July 8, after leaving the Yemeni capital of Sana’a on a flight for Frankfurt.

The Journal added that about 100 other Yemeni Jews may also be transferred to the United States, while a number of others could be flown to Israel.

US officials and the leaders of the Yemeni Jewish community cited what they called “mounting harassment” against the community members as the reason behind the operation.

The paper also said that the Yemeni government had agreed to issue exit permits for Jewish families at the request of the United States.

“It was the embassy’s view, and the [State] Department concurred, that because of their vulnerability, we should consider them for resettlement,” a spokeswoman for the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration told the Journal. PressTV

“Within the intelligence world there are competing agencies. I think at the last count, there are 17 agencies in the US, and they all vie for position and prestige and resources and staff numbers. So of course, if the FBI can produce this wonderful result suddenly, out of the blue, then their credit will skyrocket.”

Mark Lowenthal, a former senior CIA official, branded the operation "feckless".

"So many of the things they seemed to be after you can find out by listening to the right radio station or reading the right newspaper... It doesn't say a lot about the smarts of the SVR [Russia's foreign intelligence service]."

Even Russian experts were surprised by the methods employed by the team.

"It sounds preposterous to me," Mikhail Lyubimov, a writer and former member of the SVR, told the paper. "We've never used illegals like this," he said, referring to spies posing as ordinary citizens instead of diplomats. "And it's a comedy to have 10 of them connected." More

Marine accused in Iraqi war crimes is back on duty

Marine Sgt. Lawrence Hutchins III put on his uniform and reported for duty Tuesday despite lingering accusations that he killed an unarmed Iraqi man in what became a major war crime case.

Hutchins, 26, of Plymouth, Mass., spent the past fours years in a military prison after being convicted of murdering a 52-year-old Iraqi man in the village of Hamdania in 2006.

He was released June 14 after a military appeals court ruled he had an unfair trial in 2007 and threw out his conviction.

The case is now in the hands of a higher court that can affirm or reverse the April ruling. More
